WHAT IS BIZ
FOR KIDZ?
Biz for Kidz is a program for
middle school students that introduces them to
business basics and encourages entrepreneurial
thinking.
Topics include goal-setting,
marketing, sales, and accounting.
Students will benefit from having
the opportunity to learn business basics but more
importantly from having a safe space to ask questions
and begin to imagine themselves as entrepreneurs.
Kids who are interested in starting
or growing a business will learn immediately applicable
skills.
The class format will include
visualization, discussion, and role-playing.
A workbook
will be provided that students can keep as a business-building
reference.
WHO
IS IT FOR? Biz
for Kidz is for any child who is interested
in business. |
| |
- They may be just curious.
- They may have already
started a business such as lawn-mowing
or baby-sitting and want to learn about
how to grow it.
- They may be thinking
about starting a business.
- They may want to own
their own business when they grow up.
|
HOW IS THE PROGRAM UNIQUE?
The focus is on imagination—children
will learn business basics, but in the context of
imagining themselves as entrepreneurs. Whether they
are just curious, interested
in starting a kid business, or thinking about a
future career, they will finish the class with the
ability to visualize business ownership for themselves,
an invaluable foundation for future growth, regardless
of whether or not they ever own a business.

WHAT ARE SUSAN’S
QUALIFICATIONS FOR TEACHING THIS PROGRAM?
Susan Longley has extensive
experience in starting and running her own businesses
and in coaching business owners, and now brings
this expertise to children. Her 11-year old daughter
has a pet-sitting business, started when she was
nine, that has
earned her hundred of dollars.
Her nine-year-old son earns money picking up recyclables
from neighbors and delivering them to the recycle
bins. Several friends have asked her to coach their
children in launching businesses, so she has decided
to use her teaching and curriculum-writing skills
to develop this program to reach even more kids.
