WHAT IS A WRITING COACH?
A writing coach is a skilled writer and/or editor who works with a client to craft a writing project in the client’s voice. At the client’s request, the coach may serve as mostly a teacher or mostly an editor.
Susan brings her strengths in editing and writing as well as teaching and coaching to the table, so she can work with clients on many different levels.
HOW DO THE COACH AND THE CLIENT COLLABORATE?
On some projects you may need mostly editing so you can achieve quick turnaround; on others you may want to more deeply engage with the topic.
Susan understands that whatever the project, it has meaning for you and it’s important for you to get to the heart of what you want to say. She can help you clarify your thoughts and make the writing process flow more smoothly for you.
Like many writers, you've probably gotten plenty of criticism and not nearly enough support or praise for your work. I won't just tell you what's wrong with your manuscript. As your writing coach or editor, I will help you care for and nurture your writing—so it can take root, flourish and grow. I will encourage you to try new things and take the important creative risks that make growth possible.

- A page rate so you can anticipate project costs
- Flexible hours, approaches and methods
- The chance to work in person, via phone or on line

DO YOU WORK WITH STUDENTS?
Absolutely. The process is a bit different, as I can’t offer purely editorial assistance as they are writing for a grade, but I love teaching students to find their voice and gain confidence and power in writing.
I will work with students beginning in fifth grade through college. Page rates for students are less than for business clients.
